"Good For You, Walking"
Last night, when I was walking around the long block, I saw a woman walking toward me to pick up mail from a neighbors box. She said "good for you, walking". She repeated it twice.
When I passed her, she yelled out "How come you don't walk on the greenbelt?" She was headed back to her house, so I stopped and chatted briefly on why I like the long block and not the mosquito, squirrel infested greenbelt. I also told her when it looks like it is going to rain, I try to stay away from all the trees, in case of lightening (and it looked like thunderstorms were coming at the time). I prefer the long block because I am close to my house (my street is part of the long block) and one lap is 1/2 mile exactly. She then preceded to tell me a route on the greenbelt that equals 2 miles.
I got the feeling she didn't like me walking on her street. Plus, her encouragement of "good for you, walking" irritated me for some reason.
Now, when you write "good for you, walking" in the comments, it doesn't bother me, only encourages me to keep on doing it. It was just this lady that rubbed me the wrong way.
I wonder if I were "normal" weight if she would have said anything to me? Do you think skinny people get "good for you, walking" comments by strangers?
Maybe I'm just being oversensitive.
Thanks for the comments about my grandpa. He passed the stress test and they sent him home yesterday. He should be O.K. Grumpette still running a fever. I usually wait 48 hours before I call the pediatrician to make sure it isn't just a 48 hour "bug".
